Internship Report presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Knowledge Management and Business IntelligenceThe purpose of this report is to describe a five month internship that the student did at the Slovenian non-profit organization Luxembourg-Slovenian Business Club (LSBC). This internship report stands as partial requirement for obtaining the Master Degree in Information Management with specialization in Knowledge Management and Business Intelligence. Methodologies and the framework followed were largely based on knowledge acquired through the guidance of Nova IMS Information Management Master. The main objective of this internship was to better understand the impact of information on a business context and how to foment a knowledge-based environment. In-depth, the aim was determining the information flow as it stands, identify bottlenecks and help growing a knowledge creation culture while shortening the gap inside the organization and between the organization and its members (both individuals and organizations). The main areas affected by this internship were Knowledge Management, Information Systems and Enterprise 2.0. This report starts by giving an introduction to context and goals where the internship is inserted upon, followed by a detailed description of the background of the organization itself. After this section, it follows literature background focused on Knowledge Management areas - all subjects that were relevant for the internship practical work. Subsequently, an explanation of the of internship objectives and the path to achieve them is further discussed. Also, a presentation of the completed tasks results, followed by a critical opinion about them. Finally, possible future work endeavours that can follow up this project are then present as well as a pragmatic reflexion of the internship. As a result of this report, improvements in information handling and some applied methodologies regarding Knowledge Management will be integrated in the organization. Hopefully, it will also bring to this organization new opportunities to develop business, to establish new partnerships while simultaneously expanding LSBC network of contacts

Railways are one of the most efficient and widely used mass transportation systems for mid-range distances, also being pointed out as the best strategy to reach European Union decarbonisation goals. However, to increase railways attractiveness, it is necessary to improve the quality of the ride, namely its comfort, by decreasing the vibration at the passenger level. This article describes the experimental vibration modal identification of train seats based on a dedicated set of dynamic tests performed on Alfa Pendular and Intercity trains. This work uses two output-only modal identification techniques: the transmissibility functions and the Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition (EFDD) method. The last method allows us to clearly distinguish the seat structural movements, particularly the ones related to torsion and bending of the seat frame, from the local vertical foam vibrations. The natural frequencies and mode shapes are validated by matching the results derived from the transmissibility functions and EFDD method. The identified modal parameters are particularly relevant to characterise the vibration transmissibility provided by the foams (local transmissibility) and the vibration transmissibility derived from the metallic seat frame (global transmissibility). This research was funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia grant number PD/BD/143161/2019. Heart rate variability behavior in athletes after a sports concussion: A systematic review

    Get PDF
Objective This systematic review aims to investigate the adaptations of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) after a concussion by measuring HRV in athletes over the age of 16 after injury. Methods This systematic review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA). Web of Science, Pubmed, SCOPUS, and Sport Discus were searched using predefined search terms to identify relevant original cross-sectional, longitudinal, and cohort epidemiological studies published before December 2021. Results After screening 1737 potential articles, four studies met the inclusion criteria. Studies included participants with concussion (n = 63) and healthy control athletes (n = 140) who practised different sports. Two studies describe a decrease in HRV following a sports concussion, and one proposed that the resolution of symptoms does not necessarily reflect ANS recovery. Lastly, one study concluded that submaximal exercise induces alteration in ANS, not seen in rest after an injury. Conclusions In the frequency domain, a decrease in high frequency power and an increase of low frequency/high frequency ratio is expected, as the activity of the sympathetic nervous system increases, and the parasympathetic nervous system decreases after injury. In the frequency domain, heart rate variability (HRV) may help monitor the activity of ANS evaluating signals of somatic tissue distress and early identification of other types of musculoskeletal injuries. Further research should investigate the relationship between HRV and other musculoskeletal injuries.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Railways are among the most efficient and widely used mass transportation systems for mid-range distances. To enhance the attractiveness of this type of transport, it is necessary to improve the level of comfort, which is much influenced by the vibration derived from the train motion and wheel-track interaction; thus, railway track infrastructure conditions and maintenance are a major concern. Based on discomfort levels, a methodology capable of detecting railway track infrastructure failures is proposed. During regular passenger service, acceleration and GPS measurements were taken on Alfa Pendular and Intercity trains between Porto (Campanhã) and Lisbon (Oriente) stations. ISO 2631 methodology was used to calculate instantaneous floor discomfort levels. By matching the results for both trains, using GPS coordinates, 12 track section locations were found to require preventive maintenance actions. The methodology was validated by comparing these results with those obtained by the EM 120 track inspection vehicle, for which similar locations were found. The developed system is a complementary condition-based maintenance tool that presents the advantage of being low-cost while not disturbing regular train operations. This research was funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, grant number PD/BD/143161/2019. The sharing economy emerges as a socio-economic system based on the consumption of goods and services through sharing. Its quick expansion was facilitated through the development of digital technologies, which in turn led to the development of numerous platforms, especially in the tourism sector, with Airbnb being the most notable example. Thus, this thesis seeks to understand the different consumer profiles and to analyze what motivations lead to the use of Airbnb, the leading platform in accommodation inside the sharing economy. To this end, a quantitative and exploratory study was conducted, aiming to analyze differences in the motivations when choosing Airbnb’s service, according to consumers sociodemographic and service experience characteristics of Airbnb. This investigation performed a Multivariate Variance Analyses (MANOVA) and Univariate (UNIANOVA), including five sub-scales of the Motivations to Choose Airbnb (MCA), which corresponds to five of the main motivations regarding Airbnb booking. To analyze the psychometric characteristics of the MCA questionnaire in the Portuguese population, internal consistency and factor analyses were performed, which revealed a good internal consistency in the used sample. The main conclusions of this research allow to verify that the guests between 41 and 60 years are more motivated by the sharing economy ethos and by the amenities. Guests with average and above average salaries and who are attending university give priority to the novelty dimension. The hosts have shown greater motivation regarding sharing economy ethos, while guests who choose shared spaces and private rooms showed greater motivation for interaction. Guests staying between one and two nights showed less motivation regarding amenities, novelty and local authenticity, when considering booking through Airbnb. This research presets some limitations associated with sampling method used, which, although not random, cannot be representative of a population, although the sociodemographic characteristics presented are similar to general population

Regardless of the technique used’ releasing medial ligament structures is a safe and effective method to be used in the diagnosis and treatment of injuries to the medial compartment.publishersversionpublishe
